M.I TherTec Sheathed Thermocouple

M.I TherTec means ORIENTAL TEMP SENSOR's trademark of sheathed thermocouple. M.I TherTec is manufactured by inserting thermocouple wire into the fine tube(sheath) made of stainless steel or heat-resistant steel, and its surrounding area is filled with inorganic magnesium oxide insulators. A variety of products are available according to uses based on this structure. Compared with common protection tube type thermocouples, the sheathed thermocouple features many advantages.

Principle of Thermocouple

Termocouple is manufactured by connection both ends of two dissimilar metal wires, and when themperature difference occurs on the contacts on these two ends, thermal electro motive force occurs in this closed-circuit and electric current flows on this circuit. The size and the polarity of this electro motive force are determined by the temperature on both ends and the combination of the two metal wires, and are not affected by the thickness or the length of the metal wire. As the electro motive force can be pre-read according th the temperature of specific thermocouple, temperature can be measured. Thermocouple not only requires selection of appropriate wires according to the temperature measurement range, situation of the measuring places, and the required accuracy, but also requires the maintaining of same performance even when it is used for a long period of thime. Compared with the protection tube type thermocouple, M.I RisiTec features the following :

1. Wide range of applecations
   Thanks to small outer diameter, it can measure the temperature of small items, and the sheathed struture renders high durability against high temperature and high pressure, with applicable temperatures ranging from -200˚C to 2600˚C
2. High responsiveness
   Small outer diameter means small thermal capacity, which in tum means that the product is highly sensitive to temperature changes.
3. Easy handling
   As the product can be bent by up th the double radius of the outer diameter of the sheath, it can easily be installed regardless of types of places.
4. Long life span
   compared with the conventional type thermocouples featuring the deterioration of electro motive force or disconnections, this product is insulated with chemically stabilized magnesium oxide, offering excellent airtightness and longer operating life
5. Mechanical strength and pressure resistance
   Proper selection of the sheath quality will ensure satisfactory use of the product even under extremely unfavorable conditions, such as high vibration, corrosive atmosphere, and high temperature or low temperature. Even the sheath with small outer diameter can withstand 3,500kg/㎠ at 660˚C.
6. Outer diameters and sizes of the sheath that can be manufactured
   Outer diameters ranging from 0.5m/m to 12.7m/m, and up to approximately 400m can be manufactred according to the size of the sheath outer diameters.
